We began this hike by driving to the deserted Crystal Mountain resort, parking by the chapel, and then walking up the hill to a nasty dirt road, and then turning left onto the Silver Creek trail. Good thing we had been there before because the sign was missing until we walked a few hundred feet to the nearest ski lift.
| Now there is a sign confirming we are in the right place |
| Continuing up the trail and looking back on the ski slopes |
| It didn't take long to get to the PCT. |
| PCT looking north |
| PCT looking south |
| High walk heading south |
| Only a tiny hint of fall color at first |
| Then a little more color |
| Looking down on Placer Lake |
| Approaching Sourdough Gap, along with the clouds |
| An ancient marker on the PCT north, at Pickhandle Point |
| Looking down on the basin that might be the location of Hen Skin Lake |
| Another view of Crystal Mountain ski slopes |
| Coming back down the very steep ski slope instead of the trail. Silly, but interesting. |
