A Palm Springs Hiking Sextet

Who knew?

1.  Our first stop was the Palm Canyon Trail in the Indian Canyons of the Agua Caliente Indian Tribe
So weird to see Palm Trees in the middle of the desert

Perfect blue skies

Palm trees

More palm trees

More beautiful Palm trees

The desert looks more barren once out of the canyon

2.  Andreas Canyon, also in the Indian Canyons
Beautiful rock formations against a blue sky

Part of the oasis in the canyon
3.  Ryan Mountain in Joshua Tree National Park
Starting up Ryan Mountain in Joshua Tree National Park

Heading up the mountain

Weird granite rock formations

Up about a thousand feet

Higher

A stunning view near the top

More shots from the top

A fellow hiker snaps our picture

Feels so good
4.  Mastodon Peak, also in Joshua Tree National Park
Cholla cacti

Ocotilla cacti
On the trail

The trail here is cut into the rock
Higher again

Now the Salton Sea emerges in the distance

From our lunch spot at the top
5.  North Lykken Trail
The middle of the trail just to the west of Palm Springs

Looking down on West Palm Springs from about a thousand feet up
Higher on the trail

A view of West Palm Springs from the top of the trail
6. San Jacinto Mountains via the tramway
Looking out of our tram gondola

Approaching 8600 feet at the end of the line
Starting our hike, now above 8000 feet
Starting to see some ice on the trail
Now even more ice. Yikes!
We had to turn around....

and find a trail with no ice.
Still snowy, but not as much ice

A nice shot of the high country

A view from our lunch spot.

Thanks so much, Keith, for helping me sort through all of these pictures!
