Snow Lake, Another Summer Hike in Winter

The beautiful and unseasonably warm day called for a beautiful and unseasonable hike.  We headed to Alpental to hike to Snow Lake.

Snow in the mountains above the trail, but not much

The trail crosses a snowfield in the shade near the beginning of the trail

More snow and ice on the trail
More snow and ice on the trail

Sometimes all the snow was melted, except in the middle of the trail.

Beautiful blue skies above

Deeper snow like this on some parts of the trail
Getting closer to the saddle, into the Wilderness

Lots of snow on the trail near the saddle

Great shot of the frozen lake by Keith as we descended into the basin.
Nothing but snow and ice on the trail in the basin

The lake is frozen over, but not this lovely inflow stream

Approaching the lake shore

And another

A wonderful and surreal hike.  Thanks, Keith, for helping me over the scary parts.
