Pinnacle Saddle

A break in the rain means head for the mountain.
Mt. Rainier from Pinnacle Saddle Trail

Walking along the closed Stevens Canyon Road to get to the trailhead

The start of the trail was snow free

But, as we ascended, we saw more and more snow.

Not scary at first

But more scary as the snow got deeper

And deeper

A struggling goat didn't do my confidence any good.

Steeper slopes, deeper snow

Almost there

There.  Pinnacle Saddle with a brand new view of Mt. Adams

And the Goat Rocks

Looking back on Paradise from the saddle.  The trail was just as precipitous as it looks.

Coming back down

One last shot of Mt. Rainier on our way out

A wonderful hike on the one day of nice weather, plus we got to avoid watching the elections.

Stats:
Round trip including the walk on the Stevens Canyon Road = 6 miles
Elevation gain = 1200'
Hike/drive ratio =1
Date hiked = November 8, 2016
