Loreto, Mexico

A week in Baja California, with our good friends and neighbors, Helen and Gordon.

Tuesday, March 3

Flying in over the Sea of Cortez

Approaching the airport in Loreto Mexico

First evening in the lovely resort

Wednesday, March 4

Dawn from our balcony

Taking our first hike from the resort

Petroglyphs along the trail

Rugged terrain

Gordon and Helen saw a blue whale, but none for us yet

A beach we will hike down to in a few days

A super fast road runner

Coming back down

 Same day, in the afternoon
The orioles and hummingbirds love the blooming aloe vera

An afternoon beach hike

Great weather, great scenery, great companions

 Thursday, March 5

Along the next morning's trail: a California fish hook cactus

Hiking down to a deserted beach, 2 of 4 intrepid explorers

Finding critters and shells and bones of critters

All explorers are having...

...a very good time.

March 6-a little trip to the town of Loreto

An effigy of our president

A 3 hour walk thru this quiet friendly town

Snowy egret along the waterfront malecon

While much of the world plunges into crisis, a sign saying there is no Corona virus here.

Several people at the marina kept trying to get us to go fishing with them.

Lots of pelicans on boats.

Looking back into town from the pier

Typical street scene

The first church in Baja, built in 1697

The main shopping area is empty at noon.
March 7
After dinner, a waiter makes fire coffee for Helen.

Lots of tequila!

Done! He deserved his tip

March 8, a little rainy, but no matter

Starting another new hike.

Climbing up to the ridge

Nice place to reflect on things.

Continuing up and down and up the trail

Happy hikers still....

....after all these years.

Although cloudy and drizzling, the views are super.

We kept looking, but no whales for us today.

 Cholla variety starting to bloom.

Blooming ocatilla

Finishing the 8 mile loop and returning to the resort.

Last shot on March 10 before leaving

Thanks, Helen and Gordon, for hosting us on this great trip.
Thanks, Keith, for sorting all the pictures.
