First kayak trip of the summer, better late than never.
| Starting at this ugly launch spot near the Steilacoom Ferry Dock, by the garbage, under the railroad tracks |
| Much nicer once we got away from all the bustle |
| An old abandoned marina on the left, Ketron Island on the right |
| Crossing the open water of Cormorant Passage, Anderson Island in the background |
| Approaching Ketron Island |
| Heading north to go counterclockwise around the island |
| Passing some beaches on the island |
| Coming around the northern point |
| Landing for lunch |
| Same spot, but so many yellow jackets here, we actually had to look elsewhere for lunch |
| Continuing around the island |
| Rounding the southern tip of the island |
| Heading north |
| Old ferry sitting on Ketron Island |
By this time, having paddled around the island, the wind picked up big time as we headed back across the open water. Nothing like a little challenge to end the trip. One doesn't take pictures while crossing a windy passage.
Stats:
Round trip=6 miles
Paddle/drive ratio=4/1=4
