Dege Peak and Antler Peak

Started on the Sourdough Ridge Trail from Sunrise Point, headed for Dege Peak, 7006' and Antler Peak, 7017'

Beautiful fall colors along the trail

Looking down on Sunrise Lake

Dege peak, our planned first climb for the day

Getting higher on the ridge trail..

and higher...

And higher

Looking back

Sharon at the summit of Dege peak

...and Keith at the summit looking south

How close the mountain really looked from Dege....

...ditto, a different perspective

On our way back down and on to summit Antler peak

Halfway up Antler and there was no longer even a boot track, so we had to bushwhack

looking back

On the last summit for the day!

Looking  down to the west from our lunch spot on the summit of Antler Peak

...and to the south as we come down

A peek at the Cowlitz Chimneys

Heading back to the trailhead

A herd of goats on the distant hillside.

It was a fun outing, with two bagged peaks, on a beautiful day at Sunrise.

This is one of my favorite photo montages yet. The view of Ranier from the "opposite" side is head-turningly cool. Love you!

The view from Dege peak looked fantastic! Was it bushwacking or rockwacking on Antler? The terrain looked a bit rough... Lovely fall hikes. Jen

It was bushwhacking on Antler, we came around the slope away from the rocks. It was challenging, but not too scary, and we certainly got away from the crowds at Sunrise.
Keith sorted the pictures, so he's the one who put together the montage.

Beautiful! Looks like you guys had a great end-of-season high elevation hike. I'd love to see this area in person.

It's been fun hiking these little peaks around the park that don't have trails.
