Puerto Vallarta Playa Mita

Got a great last minute deal and decided to head south of the border for some sunshine.

View from our balcony in Playa Mita, about 35 miles south of Puerto Vallarta

Looking south along the 5 mile beach

Plovers and sandpipers

The beach looking north where we walked many miles each morning...

then coming back to swim and cool off

A morning trip to Sayulita, about 20 miles north

Sayulita beach - famous for great surfing

With binoculars, taking one of our many very rewarding bird walks

On a 9 mile beach walk (round trip) to pueblito Higuera Blanca...

very rural and practically untouched by tourists..

and extremely friendly town folk who were pleased to see and talk with us.

Genuine cobblestone streets

Who knew a golf course like this would be full of tropical birds?

A western kingbird

Least grebes gliding across the water

Trying to get a shot of a vermillion flycatcher just doesn't work with a cell phone camera. Oh well.
We had a wonderful time, and would be happy to return someday.  We identified twenty seven tropical bird species, so much fun.
