Burroughs Mountain Loop Hike

Since Sunrise opened early this year, we decided it was time to check out the snow level on one of our favorite hikes
One of the nice things about hiking from Sunrise is you get great views like this right from the get go.

The beautiful phlox is out early this year

Halfway frozen Frozen Lake

Starting up the trail to the first Burroughs

Well, we don't have ice axes, but we do have micro-spikes and poles

Got across the first snow field,, with Frozen Lake in the background

The mountain peeks around the trail

A lot of snow and ice to cross

On top of the first Burroughs
Literally and figuratively blown away

Dwarfed by the mountain

The flat top of first Burroughs

The three snowfield on the ascent to the second Burroughs
Crossing a snowfield coming up on Second Burroughs

A view from our lunch spot on Second Burroughs

Little Tahoma from Second Burroughs

Coming back down from the Second Burroughs, we take a right on the Sunrise Rim Trail

The last big snowfield to cross, before

And after, looking back

Looking down on the copper colored lake

The trail, the mountain.......

A field of marsh marigolds

One last shot right before getting back to Sunrise

This looks absolutely amazing! I have been waiting for over a year to attempt this hike! Would you say the trail is very rocky? Or is it mostly leveled dirt with the occasional rock/root? We've got family coming to visit and one has a bad knee that makes the rocky trails like Lake Serene and Snow Lake inaccessible for her. Would you think this trail would be okay?

Hi Tara,
Yes, the trail is quite rocky. Because of the higher elevations at Sunrise, much of this trail is above the tree line, thus there are no major tree roots to deal with.
This is a gorgeous trail, but, in my opinion, it would be just as difficult as Lake Serene or Snow Lake.
