The Best of the Olympic Discovery Trail

We decided a bike trip would be a great way to spend Labor Day.

The Port Angeles marina

We started at the Deer Park rest Stop a few miles east of Port Angeles, just off highway 101

The trail quickly drops away from the highway and down to pretty Morse Creek

Another mile or so through the forest and the trail comes up to the strait of Juan de Fuca

A world class view

A meditative view of the waves

Looking toward Port Angeles

Looking way out to Ediz Hook in the distance, our first destination

Biking past the marina

Looking back at this year's snow-free Olympics

Checking the map at the end of Ediz Hook

Looking out from the Hook to the Pacific Ocean

We then biked back off the Hook and after a few blocks on the road, we reconnected with the Olympic Discovery Trail

Only four more miles to the river

It was nice to bike away from the city

The Elwha River

Our lunch spot on the shore

The double-decker bridge with the top level for cars and the bottom level for walkers and bikers

From the bridge, looking down

The trail on our return trip
This whole trip was approximately 29 miles, and we enjoyed every inch of it.
