We went to the south entrance of Joshua Tree National Park and then to the trail head for the Lost Palms Oasis.
| There was no water, but still some green at the start of the trail. |
| Pretty rocks |
| Ocotillo against a cloudy |
| The almost invisible trail |
| Into a small canyon |
| Sometimes there were signs, sometimes not |
| Not much net elevation gain, but lots of ups and downs |
| Once we made it to the rim, we just had to keep going and climb down into the canyon |
| The trail down was steep and not maintained |
| No water in the oasis because of the drought, but the palm trees are surviving |
| It felt like another planet down here |
| After we had enough thrashing around, we climbed back out of the canyon |
| We found a perch on the rim for lunch |
| Back in Palm Springs, a rosy sunset to end the day |
Another fine desert hike.
Stats:
Elevation gain=400'
Round trip, including going into canyon=8 miles
Date of hike= Oct. 28, 2015
